Description
November 1969, somewhere in Vietnam south of the Mekong river. This was the lead slick in a four ship formation loaded with RVN troops for insertion in a hot LZ, combat assault, search and destroy mission. Though we had M-60's, two of our Cobras always covered us when we went in. D troop, 3/5th Air Cavalry. Longknife 26 was the callsign of the slick platoon leader. I was Longknife 22. By the way, troops always sat in open doorways.

Steve, My wife and I had the honor of attending Roy Sudek's funeral at Arlington National in Febuary. It was a full military service with a platoon of soldiers and a with a bugaler playing Taps and a horse drawn caisson. Roy had been the Gunship platoon leader in D Troop and my roommate. He went on to spend 41years active duty. He was a warrior hero, google his name. I had not seen him in 40 years until the preceding Aug meeting of VHPA
